Kees de Ridder has a general corporate practice with a focus on intellectual property. He supports clients with the commercialization and patenting of their technology. His experience also includes assisting Canadian and foreign clients on a broad range of matters, including privacy, cybersecurity, licensing, branding and IP-related transactions.
Kees has a keen interest in digital technologies, specifically decentralized financial systems, computer-implemented inventions and data protection. Before law school, he was a computer programmer in the political and medical industries.
Active in the community, Kees serves on several boards, including as a director of STEM Innovation Academy, a grades 7-9 public charter school in Calgary, co-chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Community (SOGIC) section for Alberta and second vice-chair of SOGIC's federal section.
Fluent in French, Kees began his legal career as a paralegal at a global law firm in Paris, France.
