Bennett Jones is pleased to announce that Robert (Rob) D. McDonald, Q.C. has joined the firm as a partner in the Edmonton office. He practices in the areas of intellectual property litigation and enforcement, branding strategy, trademark protection and commercialization, and licensing and exploitation of all forms of IP.
Rob is a registered trademark agent in both Canada and the United States. He manages many IP portfolios and brands for a broad range of local, national and global clients. He is an experienced litigator who enforces and defends client’s valuable patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, confidential information and trade secrets.

Rob provides support in M&A, cross border and international business, financing and other commercial transactions and represents a broad range of clients worldwide in a variety of industries.
He has significant experience with respect to copyright collectives, such as SOCAN and Access Copyright and has conducted a trial on music tariffs before the Copyright Board. Rob is also a sessional instructor of the IP Law Course at the University of Alberta Faculty Of Law and has delivered IP lectures to the Faculties of Law at Oxford University and Cambridge University as a visiting professor. He teaches at the McGill University and IPIC intensive Trademark Course.
