Artem Barsukov is a leading Swedish and Russian speaking lawyer specializing in global and domestic arbitration matters. With more than a decade of experience in international dispute resolution and advanced training from leading global arbitration institutions, Artem serves as both an advocate and an arbitrator, helping clients efficiently navigate and resolve their most complex legal disputes.


Artem is one of very few true arbitration specialists in Canada. Having practiced arbitration throughout his career, he has successfully represented clients worldwide in complex international and domestic arbitrations collectively worth over two billion dollars. Artem has acted as arbitration counsel under leading international arbitration systems, including ICC, LCIA, and UNCITRAL, and appeared before the world’s top arbitrators in Doha (Qatar), London, and Mexico City.

Aligning with his deep commitment to arbitration, Artem completed the Accelerated Route to Fellowship program from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in England in 2021, obtaining the prestigious designation of a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb). This program, offered to practitioners with years of experience as arbitration counsel, is widely recognized as the global gold standard of arbitrator training. In 2023, Artem expanded his arbitration credentials further, by completing the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce / Swedish Arbitration Association Diploma Course for Foreign Arbitrators in Sweden. Artem also serves on the ICC Canada Arbitrator Nominations Commission and is listed on the roster of arbitrators of the Vancouver International Arbitration Centre (VanIAC). These credentials enable Artem to act as an effective third-party neutral on a wide variety of disputes.

Complementing his arbitration practice, Artem is also one of very few lawyers in Canada specializing in regulatory aspects of Canadian Aviation Law, with a particular focus on the Canadian ownership and control requirement. Artem’s comprehensive knowledge of the law and first-rate advocacy skills have enabled him to achieve successful outcomes in high-stakes regulatory proceedings, preserving thousands of Canadian jobs and saving millions of dollars to the flying public.

Consistent with the global focus of his practice, Artem embraces leadership positions within Canada’s European business community. Artem is the Secretary-General and Director of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Canada (EUCCAN), where he serves on the Executive Committee of the Board and represents the Swedish-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Executive Advisory Committee of the Swedish-Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
