Brad Gilmour is head of the firm's regulatory department and co-head of the environmental department. His practice focuses primarily on environmental, energy, regulatory and aboriginal law.

He has significant experience in facility approval applications associated with a broad range of energy, natural resource, chemical, petrochemical, hydro, oil sands, carbon capture and storage, bio-fuel, renewable power and other industry types. Brad appears before the Alberta Environmental Appeals Board, the Alberta Energy Regulator (formerly, the Energy Resources Conservation Board), the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Natural Resources Conservation Board and the Canada Energy Regulator (formerly, the National Energy Board). Brad also regularly advises clients concerning regulatory compliance issues, spills, contaminated sites and environmental prosecutions. Brad has also appeared before various courts including the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Before entering the practice of law, he worked in Calgary as an environmental consultant conducting environmental liability assessments and site remediation programs.

Brad writes and speaks on topics concerning environmental and regulatory law. As well, he has taught courses on environmental law and occupational health and safety law for the University of Calgary, Athabasca University, and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.

Brad is the past chair of the Canadian Prairie and Northern section of the Air and Waste Management Association and a past chair of the southern environmental section of the Canadian Bar Association.

ATCO Ltd., through Canadian Utilities Limited, in its acquisition from DP Energy of the Barlow (27 MW) and Deerfoot (37 MW) solar projects located in Calgary, which will be the largest solar installation in a major urban centre in Western Canada.
Kissner Group Holdings LP, completed its acquisition of NSC Minerals Ltd., a market-leading provider of salt products in Western Canada and the North Central United States, from an investor group led by Altas Partners.
CST Canada Coal Limited, in its acquisition of coal assets of Grande Cache Coal LP and Grande Cache Coal Corporation for aggregate consideration of approximately US$433.9 million.
Di-Corp Sand Transloading LP, in the divestiture of Grande Prairie Transload Facility to BMC Northern Resources Inc.
Alberta Orphan Well Association, concerning whether secured creditors have priority with regard to assets of insolvent companies.
Many corporations and Boards of Directors, concerning environmental and regulatory compliance issues and prosecutions relating to issues such as pipeline releases, commodity transport accidents, sour gas releases, oil facility releases, releases from petroleum and natural gas wells, tailings pond containment failures, breaches of operating permits, import and export of chemicals, and ozone depleting substances.
