Darrel Pearson helps clients navigate their most complex international trade and investment law issues in an unpredictable global environment. He has more than four decades of experience in the movement of goods, services and intellectual property across international borders—and resolving disputes with government agencies before Canadian Tribunals and Courts, and international treaty fora.

Darrel is head of the firm's international trade and investment practice. He uses his wealth of experience to provide clients with creative solutions and novel approaches to their trade matters. Clients value his extraordinary ability to look at rapidly evolving trade and investment issues from all perspectives. His thorough knowledge of the international trading system helps clients adapt and thrive in a world where many of the rules of global trade are being rewritten.

Darrel is a highly respected thought leader and frequent author and speaker on Canadian international trade law issues in Canada and abroad. He has mentored numerous lawyers who are now in leadership positions in trade and investment law.

Darrel has represented Canadian and international clients in more than 200 trade remedy matters involving goods exported to Canada from all over the world. He has pleaded some of the most important customs and trade remedy cases heard by Canadian Tribunals and Courts, including two cases heard by the Supreme Court of Canada .

Complementing his international trade and investment practice, Darrel is a qualified arbitrator of international commercial and investment treaty disputes and is appointed to the Roster for Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) Binational Panels. He is internationally recognized as a leading international trade practitioner in multiple independent legal directories, and is consistently ranked Band 1 in Chambers Global and The Legal 500.

G-III Apparel Canada, in a Canadian International Trade Tribunal customs valuation appeal.
The Retail Council of Canada, in a Canadian International Trade Tribunal inquiry into dumping and subsidization of upholstered seating for domestic purposes originating in or exported from China and Vietnam.
Stone Canyon Industries Holdings LLC and Kissner Group Holdings, as Canadian counsel, in their US$3.2-billion agreement to acquire K+S Aktiengesellschaft's North and South American salt business, including Morton Salt and Windsor Salt.
Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metals Corp., Canada Border Services Agency and Canadian International Trade Tribunal investigations into dumping and injury relating to large diameter line pipe imported from Japan.
Fluor Canada, Canadian International Trade Tribunal injury relating to certain fabricated industrial steel components, and judicial review proceedings before the Federal Court of Appeal.
Rio Tinto Alcan, Canada Border Services Agency and Canadian International Trade Tribunal investigation into dumping/subsidization and injury relating to silicon metal imported from Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Norway, Kazakhstan, Brazil, and Russia.
Multinational Logistics Services, Government procurement claim before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.
Cenovus Energy Inc., Request for exclusion from a finding of injurious dumping/subsidization of large diameter line pipe and scoping of protective commercial procurement terms and conditions.
Hyundai Electric and Engineering Systems, Expiry Review proceedings relating to a Canadian International Trade Tribunal Order concerning the dumping of certain transformers into Canada.
Herrick Feinstein, Appeared as a Canadian anti-dumping expert witness in U.S. court dispute resolution proceedings involving a commercial dispute relating to a corporate acquisition and liability for Canadian anti-dumping duties.
Nestle Canada Inc., Appeared before the Canada Border Services Agency (President) and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal in customs litigation relating to the application of tariff rate quota, rates of customs duty.
Numerous public and private companies with Canadian business interests in connection with their customs (valuation/tariff classification/tariff preferences) and transfer pricing practices, preparing intercompany agreements and supervising preparation of suitable transfer pricing studies.
