Jay Winters' income tax practice focuses on planning including (1) corporate reorganizations and mergers and acquisitions, (2) private wealth, trust and succession planning, and (3) advising charities and not-for-profit organizations on setting up and structuring their affairs. Jay has completed parts I, II and III of the Chartered Professional Accountants In-Depth Tax Course, and holds a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation with the global Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
Jay also specializes on indirect tax matters such as GST/HST, provincial sales taxes and fuel and carbon taxes, and advises some of the world's leading digital goods and services companies on Canada's fast-changing cross-border sales tax laws. He has completed the CPA's In-depth GST/HST Course, and frequently represents clients in their disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency and before the Tax Court of Canada.
Jay regularly contributes to tax publications and speaks at tax conferences, including the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society and Thompson Reuters' Taxnet Pro.
