Claire Kennedy helps clients solve some of their most complex tax and business problems. She is recognized as one of Canada's leading lawyers in tax and transfer pricing and represents large taxpayers during audits and disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency. She is also a seasoned board director and a professional engineer.
Claire is a frequent speaker on tax and transfer pricing topics and serves on the Executive of the International Fiscal Association's Canadian branch. She is an officer of the International Bar Association's Taxes Committee, led the IBA's responses to the OECD's BEPS project and has taught corporate tax at the Faculty of Law at Queen's University. Claire was law clerk to the late Honourable Mr. Justice Charles D. Gonthier of the Supreme Court of Canada.
As Lead Director of the Bank of Canada, Claire brings her governance and industry expertise to the board of the nation's central bank. She is also a director of Alamos Gold Inc. and Chair of the Board of Neo Performance Materials Inc. Claire received her ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and has completed the Making Corporate Boards More Effective program at Harvard Business School and the Advanced Management Program at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.
Claire was appointed to the University of Toronto's Governing Council in 2012 and has served as Chair since July 1, 2017. She is a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee at Rotman and has been extensively involved at UofT's Faculty of Engineering. She is past President of the Engineering Alumni Association and founder and Chair of its Biz Skule™ committee.
In 2015, Claire received the Citizenship Award from the Professional Engineers of Ontario. In 2016, Claire participated in the True Patriot Love expedition to climb Vinson Massif, the highest peak in Antarctica, with a combined soldier and civilian team and raised record funds.
